Learn about Illinois' new absentee voting rules

This election cycle, voters won't need to leave their home to vote early. A law passed in 2009 allows any Illinoisan to request and vote using an absentee ballot.

Early voting by absentee ballot begins Thursday, September 23. Ballots can be requested until October 28 by mail and November 1 in person. Mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than midnight on the night prior to the election.

You can download a Chicago absentee ballot application here and a Cook County application here. (Residents of other counties should check with their County Clerk for Vote by Mail (absentee) ballot applications.)

In addition to voting by mail, there will be early in-person voting at locations in Chicago from October 12th through October 28th.
