Statement on Senate Vote to Proceed to Repeal Health Care for Millions of Americans

Senate Vote to Repeal Health Care from Millions Unconscionable,

Yet Rauner Remains Silent

CHICAGO – William McNary and Lynda DeLaforgue, co-directors of Citizen Action/Illinois released the following statement in response to the Senate vote on the motion to proceed to some version of the GOP repeal bill.

“This vote is an unconscionable partisan political act of the worst kind. It’s a vote to proceed to strip health care away from millions of Americans, increase premiums for millions more, end Medicaid as we know it – all to give tax breaks to the very wealthy and drug and insurance companies.

For months, we have called on Governor Rauner to articulate his concerns to members of the Illinois delegation and to the public. With the health care of millions hanging in the balance and the added fiscal uncertainty caused by restructuring Medicaid; we hoped that Governor Rauner would respond with an unambiguous statement. Our call to action has been met with silence.”

“Governor Rauner owes the people of the State of Illinois a detailed account of his concerns about the federal health care debate and his proposed solutions in the face of the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.”
