Sen. Durbin stands with Citizen Action/Illinois to call for financial reform


On Friday April 23rd, Senator Durbin joined with Americans for Financial Reform, the Woodstock Institute, Illinois PIRG,  Illinois Main Street Alliance and Citizen Action/Illinois at a news conference across the street from the Federal Reserve Bank. The press conference called for passage of Wall Street reform legislation set to be debated next week in the Senate. Senator Durbin called on the Senate to pass legislation that will stop Wall Street from gambling with America's financial security.

SB 655: The Consumer Installment Loan Reform Act


SB 655, the Consumer Installment Loan Reform Act, will ensure that all Illinoisans have access to longer-term credit with reasonable terms. It will end the 700% Annual Percentage Rate currently being charged in Illinois.

Chicago Rallies to Tell Congress: It's Time to Deliver on Health Care


Over 100 people gathered in Federal Plaza in downtown Chicago to tell Congress to finish health care right and finish it now. Despite temperatures in the single digits and a strong Lake Michigan breeze, enthusiastic leaders chanted and laughed and committed to getting the job done. HCAN leaders Reverend Larry Greenfield, William McNary (Co-Director, Citizen Action/Illinois), and David Kagan (Illinois Mainstreet Alliance) joined a representative from Senator Burris’ office and two MoveOn Illinois leaders on stage to remind the crowd why we need to keep fighting and how we will win.

Analysis: Illinois Needs Health Insurance Reform


Currently, 1.8 million Illinoisans do not have health insurance, and if nothing is done, this will increase to 2.3 million by 2019.
